Perhaps, but I would argue that a) you don't need to buy a new machine everytime - its just like buying a car - you lose a fortune when you drive it out of the showroom, and b) you don't get real value from running a machine till it is too slow/inacpable of running the apps you need.
E.g. I bought a MacBook Core Duo that was 3months old, and only cost 75% of new, sold it again to upgrade to a C2D system, and only paid a delta of £100 to do so. If you wanted to do that on a Windows box, it would be almost impossible... Tuesday, 23 October 2007

Also lookat resell values - a $1500 Mac will still be worth $1000+ on ebay in 12months. A $1000 Dell will be woth $200 if you are lucky. Look at TCO not just purchase cost...
